Dr Tan Chuan Chien graduated from the University of Adelaide Medical School in 2003. He completed advanced training in general surgery at Monash Health in Melbourne in 2012, before he was admitted as a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS). Subsequently, he underwent three years of training in breast oncology surgery under the Breast Surgeons of Australia & New Zealand (BreastSurgANZ) Post-fellowship Training Programme. BreastSurgANZ is the sole credentialling body for breast surgeons in Australasia.

In 2012, Dr Tan was appointed to the University of Melbourne, Department of Surgery (DOS) Fellowship in breast and endocrine surgery, St. Vincent’s Hospital, Melbourne. In 2013, he completed a year of fellowship in breast and endocrine surgery at Princess Alexandra Hospital, Brisbane, where he was appointed as an Associate Lecturer in the School of Medicine, University of Queensland. 

Dr Tan was a fellow in breast and endocrine surgery in Nepean Hospital, Sydney, in 2014, where he pursued his interest in oncoplastic breast surgery. The latter emphasises on providing breast cancer patients with surgical options and choices, with a high uptake of breast conservation and reconstruction. 

A believer of personalised surgical care for each of his patients, Dr Tan abides by sound oncological principles while maintaining cosmesis during treatment, which he tailors to the needs and expectations of each patient. 

Dr Tan also provides care in endocrine surgery, having specialised in the surgical care of thyroid and parathyroid diseases. He was elected to membership in the International Association of Endocrine Surgeons (IAES) in 2013.

Currently, Dr Tan practises as a Consultant in the Department of General Surgery in Ng Teng Fong General Hospital. He is also a Clinical Senior Lecturer with Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore.
