Adj A/P Fareed Kagda graduated from the National University of Singapore in 1995. He completed his orthopaedic training and obtained his FRCS (Edinburgh) in Orthopaedics in 2002. He went on to complete his clinical fellowship training in Leeds (UK), Hannover (Germany) and Lucerne (Switzerland) between 2004 and 2006. He was the best Orthopaedic Trainee of his cohort and received a number of research, teaching and service excellence awards.

Prior to joining JurongHealth Campus, Adj A/P Fareed worked in National University Hospital for seven years. He joined JurongHealth Campus in 2010, and serves as Head, Orthopaedics and Head, Division of Trauma Surgery. He practises as a Senior Consultant, Orthopaedic Surgery in Ng Teng Fong General Hospital.

Adj A/P Fareed practises general adult orthopaedics, which includes joint replacements and knee arthroscopic (key hole) surgery. His major interests are focused on surgery for injuries and fractures, and patients with multiple injuries. He performs reconstructive surgery involving infections of the bone, correction of bone deformities as well as limb lengthening.

As the Chairman of NTFGH’s Operating Theatre Committee, he was involved in the setup of the operating theatres in the new hospital as well as the paperless Epic electronic medical record (EMR) system. He is also the clinical champion of the Hip Fracture Integrated Care Pathway (ICP) Committee. The ICP provides standardised management of hip fracture, including risk screening and post-operative rehabilitation.

Adj A/P Fareed is also heavily involved in postgraduate orthopaedic teaching and training activities in Singapore and the region. He holds leadership positions in committees that oversee orthopaedic training in Singapore such as the Staff Registrar Scheme Diploma in Orthopaedic Surgery, Master in Medicine (Orthopaedics) Committee with the Division of Graduate Medical Studies (National University of Singapore) and the Orthopaedic Surgery Exit Examinations Committee.

In addition, Adj A/P Fareed holds various other positions including Chairman of the Singapore Council of AOTrauma Asia Pacific (a non-profit foundation for the improvement in orthopaedic trauma care) and Chairman of the Chapter of Orthopaedic Surgery, College of Surgeons. He has always been actively involved in the Ministry of Health committees for trauma and specialty/resident education. He has also worked with the Singapore Medical Council on the accreditation of foreign trained doctors. Last but not least, he works with the Ministry of Manpower on work injuries.
