Biosketch

Dr Lydia Au is the Head of the Division of Geriatric Medicine in JurongHealth Campus. She practises as a Senior Consultant in Ng Teng Fong General Hospital.

Dr Au graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine from the National University of Singapore in 1992. She obtained her membership of the Royal Colleges of Physicians of the United Kingdom and her Master of Medicine from the National University of Singapore in 1997. Following this, she went on to become a fellow of the Academy of Medicine, Singapore in Geriatrics.

Dr Au joined Alexandra Hospital’s Geriatric department (under the management of Alexandra Health) as a Consultant in June 2004. She was very active in patient safety and clinical quality. In July 2010, she joined JurongHealth Campus as part of the pioneer team, to help build and lead the establishment of the Geriatric service for its new hospitals. In March 2012, she was appointed as the Director of Geriatric Medicine to further the development of the service. She was in charge of all medical and professional matters such as the development and provision of geriatric services, patient management, clinical programmes, protocols and pathways, clinical standards and outcomes, as well as other related operational matters.

Having extensive clinical experience in geriatric medicine, Dr Au takes a special interest in falls in the elderly, ortho-geriatrics and osteoporosis. She has spoken extensively on these topics at various geriatric symposiums, conferences and talks. She has also contributed to two clinical practice guidelines on osteoporosis.

Apart from her clinical and administrative duties at JurongHealth Campus, Dr Au holds several external appointments. She participates in the education of nursing students and medical doctors in national geriatric training programmes. She is also part of the teaching faculty of the Singapore Healthcare Improvement Network and an active member of the Adult Protection Service. In addition, she is a nominated member of the Singapore Medical Council.
