Dr Kwek Liling graduated from National University of Singapore and was subsequently trained in the Department of General Surgery, Colorectal Division in Tan Tock Seng Hospital and in National University Hospital before coming to Ng Teng Fong General Hospital to work as an Associate Consultant.

Besides laparoscopic and open colorectal surgeries, hernia surgeries, minor perineum and perianal surgeries, her interest is in endoscopy and advanced endoscopy. To date, she had performed more than 15,000 scopes. She had gone for an attachment to the Division of Gastroenterology, Jichi Medical University Hospital to learn advanced endoscopy from Professor Hironori Yamamoto. She had also visited Kyoto Prefecture University of Medicine to learn how to set up a resident training lab for advanced endoscopy.

She was involved in quality improvement projects over the years, including the Geisinger (Pennsylvania, United States) Proven Care based ‘Better Colonoscopy’ and ‘Better Proctocolectomy’ best practices care projects and ‘Nutrition improvement for surgical patients” in Tan Tock Seng Hospital.
She is currently a fellow of the Academy of Medicine, Singapore and a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh.

Community work had been her passion and a large driving force in her life. She volunteered regularly with local Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) and was also an active grassroots leader in her constituency, holding multiple key positions. She incorporated work and interest and completed a community-based research with NUH on “Community Dwelling Elderly and Long Term Mental Health in COVID-19” of which the findings benefited the local community. The findings were published in our local newspapers. She and her team was awarded the NUHS Health Promotion & Health Services Research (HPHSR) Seed Grant (Junior) category in September last year.

She was also active in serving global communities all over Asia and Middle East and had led many cross cultural teams to serve the poor, weak and disadvantaged in these areas. She is currently the Medical Advisor of Habibi International and Surgical and Medical Director of ICARE (China). She was also given the Award of Honor from Hui Ning, China for the work she had done in that area.
