Dr Rajat Tagore obtained his MBBS (Gold Medal in Medicine) from the University of Calcutta in 1990. He received his doctorate (MD) in Internal Medicine after clinical training in India in 1995. Subsequently, he underwent specialist training in Medicine and Nephrology in England in several teaching hospitals. After obtaining his MRCP (Dublin, Ireland) in 1998, he underwent advanced specialist training in Nephrology, Internal Medicine and Renal/Pancreas Transplantation in Charing Cross, Hammersmith and St. Mary’s Hospital (School of Medicine, Imperial College) in London. Having undergone dedicated training under the Health Manpower Development Plan (HMDP) in Emory University Hospital, Atlanta, USA, in October 2015, Dr Tagore also performs and reports kidney ultrasounds.

In June 2002, Dr Tagore joined the Department of Medicine, National University Hospital, Singapore. He moved on to JurongHealth Campus to establish the renal service in April 2010. As the Head of Division, he continually strives to develop the sub-specialty services (integrating with General and Internal Medicine), establishing the capabilities and improving the quality of holistic patient care and outcomes. Being accredited in both Renal Medicine and Internal Medicine, Dr Tagore has extensive clinical experience in integrating care of various aspects of kidney disease, hypertension, dialysis, and transplantation, with associated complications, e.g. kidney disease affecting the blood vessels, heart and the bones. He completed an international trial in dialysis patients and has other such ongoing trials. He has a wide range of research interests, including cardiovascular complications of chronic kidney disease and various inflammatory kidney diseases.

Dr Tagore's publications include The First UK Report of Chinese Herb (now named Aristolochia Associated) Nephropathy in The Lancet (1999), Interstitial Nephritis in Singapore (2003) and Assessment of New Diagnostic Tests of Heart Disease in Chronic Kidney Disease in the Clinical JASN (2008). He is a member of several academic and specialist organisations such as the Singapore, American and International Societies of Nephrology and the Association of Physicians, India.

Dr Tagore is a member of examination committees for renal and advanced internal medicine specialist training. He is a Visiting Nephrologist at the National Kidney Foundation and an Honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore. He regularly teaches at Nanyang Technological University, Alice Lee School of Nursing and the National Kidney Foundation. He is often invited to deliver lectures in various national and international meetings.
