Paint

Lyrics and Melody by Isaac Toh and Sarah Lo; Performed by Cui Jingwen and Isaac Toh

Inspiration

Paint was written in response to the story of a JCH patient, Uncle Said, whose determination and resilience shone through during his hospital stay. An avid painter, he inspired the song’s central imagery and its themes of creativity, hope, and perseverance.

The lyrics “bayang-bayang / bayang dirimu / bagai kulukis / untuk duniamu” draw from familiar melodies often sung by children, creating a sense of warmth and solace. The song’s melodic character is also influenced by 風船 (Fuusen), a 2017 acoustic song by the Japanese band Goose house, particularly its warm and uplifting quality.

Through its gentle and hopeful melody, Paint offers a renewed sense of hope to older adults, encouraging them to discover and cherish the small, intricate joys in their lives as they move forward.
