On 7 December, we celebrated Friends of JurongHealth and staff volunteers, who give selflessly of their time and talent to lend a helping hand, a listening ear, to co-create art and perform cheerful music that made a difference. Together, the dedicated volunteers have contributed over 15,000 volunteer hours in 2018 to bring cheer and improve hospital experience for 22,500 patients, families and visitors and reached out to 1,500 residents in the west to keep them in the pink of health. They play important roles in helping visitors find their way when they are lost; providing patients with companionship to bring cheer in their recovery journey; and befriending patients during their stay and at their homes even after discharge. The volunteers took a well-deserved break and came dressed in their kampong best when we threw them a Volunteer Appreciation Party with the theme “My Kampong, My Family, My Friends”. They were treated to a night of joy and fun, where great food, nostalgic games and live band playing their favourite music were all in place.
