Dr Tay obtained his basic medical degree from the National University of Singapore in 2004 and Membership of the Royal College of Physicians of the United Kingdom in 2010. He subsequently underwent his advanced specialty training in Rheumatology, Clinical Immunology and Allergy at National University Hospital. From 2016 to 2019, Dr Tay was awarded the National Medical Research Council Research Training Fellowship to research on neutrophils in systemic lupus erythematosus. This work led to him being awarded a Doctor of Philosophy from National University of Singapore in 2020.
