Dr. Kwek Liling is a Consultant Colorectal Surgeon at Ng Teng Fong General Hospital, dedicated to improving the lives of patients with colorectal and pelvic floor conditions through expert, compassionate care. She graduated from the National University of Singapore and completed specialist training in General Surgery, with a focus on colorectal surgery, at Tan Tock Seng Hospital and the National University Hospital.
She is skilled in both laparoscopic (keyhole) and open surgeries for colorectal cancer, hernia repair, and various perianal conditions. Dr. Kwek has a strong interest in proctology and pelvic floor disorders, which are often under-recognized but can deeply affect quality of life. She is committed to helping patients regain comfort, dignity, and confidence.
A highly experienced endoscopist, Dr. Kwek has performed over 25,000 endoscopic procedures to date. She received advanced training in Japan at Jichi Medical University Hospital under Professor Hironori Yamamoto and further honed her expertise in endoscopic teaching methods at Kyoto Prefectural University of Medicine. Today, she actively mentors junior doctors in advanced endoscopic techniques.
Her practice is guided by evidence-based medicine and delivered with calm, attentive, and patient-centered care. She has received the Patient Service Award for two consecutive years in recognition of her dedication and compassion.
In addition to clinical care, Dr. Kwek has led and participated in multiple quality improvement initiatives, including:
• “Better Colonoscopy” and “Better Proctocolectomy” (Geisinger ProvenCare model, USA)
• Nutrition optimisation for surgical patients (Tan Tock Seng Hospital)
• Reducing surgical site infections in colorectal surgery (Ng Teng Fong General Hospital)
She is a Fellow of the Academy of Medicine, Singapore, and a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.
Beyond the operating theatre, Dr. Kwek is a committed community volunteer and grassroots leader. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she co-led a study on mental health among elderly residents in collaboration with NUH. The findings were featured in local media and supported by the NUHS Health Promotion & Health Services Research (HPHSR) Seed Grant.
Her passion for service extends globally. She has led medical missions across Asia and the Middle East, reaching underserved communities with surgical and medical care. She previously served as Medical Advisor for Habibi International and Surgical and Medical Director for ICARE (China), and was honored with the Award of Honor from Hui Ning, China.
Dr. Kwek also holds a Master of Public Health and a Master of Arts in Christian Ministry, reflecting her belief that true healing happens when medical excellence is delivered with compassion, integrity, and respect for every individual.
