The Department of Anaesthesia provides a range of pre-operative, anaesthetic and pain services. Anaesthetists are also involved in other aspects of patient care such as:
- Management of patients in the Intensive Care Unit through close monitoring, support and care, providing assistance in intubation, dialysis and non-invasive ventilation
- Pain management
- Management of acute pain due to surgery, trauma, inflammation or other medical conditions
- Management of chronic pain (pain of a long standing nature)
In addition, several of our Anaesthetists have undergone sub-specialty fellowships to be chronic pain specialists. These chronic pain specialists see patients in outpatient clinic settings and also perform appropriate interventions for patients in the operating theatre. They are also a part of the Pain Multi-disciplinary Care (MDC) team who aims to provide treatment and education to help patients manage chronic pain, as well as their functionality and quality of life. Our multi-disciplinary care team consists of Pain Specialists, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, psychologists, a nurse and other clinical and Allied Health Professionals to provide holistic service to our patients.

In addition to medications and physical therapy we offer minimally-invasive interventions to relieve pain and improve function as a way of reducing reliance on medications.
