Our Urology Unit provides comprehensive management of Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH), with a subspecialty focus on evidence-based care. A full range of treatment options is available, allowing management plans to be tailored to each patient’s prostate anatomy, symptom severity and individual preferences.
We established its Holmium Laser Enucleation of the Prostate (HoLEP) programme in 2014 and have since developed extensive experience with the procedure. Since then, the unit has developed one of the largest HoLEP programmes in Singapore, with a high procedural volume and systematically tracked clinical outcomes. Clinical practice covers prostates of varying sizes, including complex and higher-risk cases.
In addition to surgical management, we have incorporated Minimally Invasive Surgical Therapies (MIST) for BPH into its service offerings. The BPH MIST service provides day-surgery options aimed at relieving bladder obstruction, reducing reliance on long-term medication and minimising side effects, with a focus on functional outcomes and quality of life. Ng Teng Fong General Hospital is an accredited centre for the Temporary Implantable Nitinol Device (iTind) procedure in Singapore.
