Biosketch

Dr Koo Chieh Yang Christopher is presently a Consultant at the National University Heart Centre, Singapore (NUHCS) and Adjunct Assistant Professor, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore


Dr Koo graduated from University College London in 2011 with a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (Distinction). He completed his Residency training in Internal Medicine in 2014, and was conferred both the Master of Medicine in Internal Medicine and Membership of the Royal College of Physicians (United Kingdom). Thereafter, he completed his Cardiology training in 2018 at the National University Heart Centre, Singapore and concurrently obtained his Master of Clinical Investigation.


Dr Koo’s subspecialty interests are in coronary artery disease, interventional cardiology and cardio-oncology. He performs percutaneous coronary intervention, and is a member of the 24 hour emergency primary percutaneous coronary intervention team as part of the Western STEMI network. He also sees cancer patients with concurrent heart problems in his specialised clinics.


As part of the nation's response for COVID-19, Dr Koo was appointed medical co-lead for Sungei Tengah Dormitory in 2020, the largest migrant worker dormitory in Singapore. For his contributions, he was awarded the Public Administration Medal (Bronze) in 2023.


Dr Koo’s research interests are focused on coronary artery disease. His research examines the effects of sleep-disordered breathing on cardiovascular disease. Presently, he is also investigating the effects of cancer and cancer treatment on the cardiovascular system. He serves as the current vice-president of the Singapore Chapter of the International Cardio-Oncology Society.
