Clinical A/Prof Gerald Chua is a Senior Consultant practising in both the Departments of Medicine and Intensive Care Medicine at Ng Teng Fong General Hospital. With extensive experience across acute and critical care settings, he brings a strong integrative approach to patient management and medical education.
He obtained Membership of the Royal College of Physicians in 1999 and was awarded the European Diploma in Intensive Care in 2004. In 2011, he was elected a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh.
His clinical interests focus on the integrated care of patients with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), encompassing the full continuum from primary and specialty care to intensive and palliative care.
As an educator, Clinical A/Prof Chua is deeply committed to advancing multi-professional training in acute care. His teaching areas include crisis resource management, mechanical ventilation, and medical professionalism, with an emphasis on practical, team-based learning in high-acuity environments.
He was appointed Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Medicine at NUS Medicine. He currently chairs both the Intensive Care Medicine Subspecialty Training Committee and the Master of Medicine (Internal Medicine) Committee. Internationally, he represents the Division of Graduate Medical Studies, NUS on the MRCP Part 1 Examination Board of the Federation of the Royal College of Physicians (UK).
Previously, he served as Executive Director of the Singapore Medical Association’s Centre for Medical Ethics and Professionalism. He continues to contribute to national service as a member of the Singapore Armed Forces Respiratory Medicine Specialist Advisory Board.
