Clin Asst Prof Shanaz Matthew Sajeed is Head of the Department of Intensive Care Medicine at Ng Teng Fong General Hospital. Dually accredited in Emergency Medicine and Intensive Care Medicine, he has extensive experience in the management of critically ill patients across both the Emergency Department and Intensive Care Unit (ICU). His clinical interests include resuscitation, critical care, patient safety, and the development of high-performing acute care systems.

A recognised leader in resuscitation education, Clin Asst Prof Shanaz serves as Chair of Cardiac Life Support and is one of the Academy’s Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Chief Instructors. He plays a pivotal role in strengthening institutional resuscitation capabilities, leading initiatives such as the implementation of High-Performance CPR training and the advancement of best practices in in-hospital cardiac arrest management. His leadership has contributed significantly to improving team performance, clinical outcomes, and the standardisation of resuscitation training across the organisation.

Beyond the institution, Clin Asst Prof Shanaz contributes to the global resuscitation community as a member of the Steering Committee of the International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation (ILCOR), where he helps shape international recommendations and best practices in resuscitation science and education.

Passionate about healthcare education and workforce development, he serves as Director of the Clinical Education and Simulation Centre, overseeing the design, delivery, and evaluation of simulation-based training programmes for healthcare professionals. Through innovative educational approaches, he supports the development of clinical competence, teamwork, and decision-making skills in high-acuity environments.

Clin Asst Prof Shanaz is actively involved in both undergraduate and postgraduate medical education. He teaches medical students from the NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine and the NTU Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine, and mentors postgraduate trainees in Emergency Medicine and Intensive Care Medicine. He also serves as an Exit Examiner for the Joint Committee on Specialist Training (JCST) Emergency Medicine examinations, contributing to the assessment and development of future specialists.

Through his combined roles as clinical leader, educator, and resuscitation expert, Clin Asst Prof Shanaz continues to advance excellence in acute and critical care while nurturing the next generation of healthcare professionals.
