Our Infectious Diseases service is designed to meet the needs of patients in the hospital and outpatient setting. Doctors within the specialty identify and treat infections arising from exposure to infectious pathogens, or infections that occur after surgical procedures. Infectious Diseases provides medical care for patients with conditions that are caused by bacteria, mycobacteria, viruses, fungi and parasite infections.
We also see and treat a large number of foreign patients from less developed countries with infections not commonly found in Singapore. Consultation services are provided to medical and surgical services by request. Patients may also be referred to the Infectious Diseases Clinic for outpatient disease management.
The specialty also provides consultation services to other departments and clinical services whenever expertise in infectious diseases is required. Additionally, it conducts lessons on communicable disease prevention and management for healthcare workers and the public. Most critically, the service plays a vital role in disease outbreak response management.
