One Combined & Integrated Intensive Care/High Dependency Unit
Designed for seamless and integrated care of critically ill patients, Ng Teng Fong General Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU) is the first in Singapore to combine and integrate different conventional sub-specialty ICUs (medical, surgical, cardiac and neurosurgical) and their High Dependency Units (HDU) into a single multi-disciplinary ICU.
Our integrated multi-disciplinary ICU occupies the entire Level Four of NTFGH. The integrated ICU concept unifies quality care for critically ill patients, especially those with complex clinical conditions. Our ICU is directly linked to critical key services such as the major operating theatre and Emergency Department via dedicated trauma lifts, providing direct and rapid access for patients in critical condition.
Holistic care is delivered by a dedicated team of critical care professionals, comprising intensivists, intensive care nurses, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, physiotherapists, dietitians and medical social workers.
The ICU complex features 74 critical care single rooms that can be easily converted between ICU and HD grades, maximising care options based on individual patient’s clinical needs. Each room has a window that allows natural sunlight to stream in, creating a conducive healing environment for critically ill patients. In addition, our ICU has two gardens within the complex and two roof terraces, allowing stable patients to be wheeled outdoors to enjoy sunlight, greenery and fresh air.
NTFGH is accredited by the College of Intensive Care Medicine (CICM, Australia & New Zealand) to provide unrestricted core training in Intensive Care Medicine, leading to the Fellowship of CICM. We are also accredited by the Singapore Medical Council to provide a 12-month fellowship in Intensive Care Medicine.
As part of our commitment to teaching and training, we provide our trainees with exemplary training in the fundamentals of managing critically ill patients, through a broad-based curriculum model, simulation-based learning, as well as involvement in clinical research.
